Little Bathroom for a Little Boy One Room Challenge- Week 1
Here we go! It’s the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge, and this is my first year participating!
If you are new around here, welcome! My name is Bre Bardenwerper and I am an interior designer and do-it-yourself lover. My taste tends to lean towards streamlined traditional with a touch of Southern flair. After all, I am nestled in the heart of the North Georgia Mountains.
A few years ago my husband and I bought my childhood dream home; that happens to be on family land. We have slowly been renovating the interior ever since and what better way to document it than the One Room Challenge?
With this being my first year, I know a few of my readers may not know what this incredible challenge is all about. So let me explain.
The One Room Challenge is a biannual event happening every spring and fall, where featured and guest participants have 6 weeks to transform a space!
Exciting right? As if it couldn’t get better, Better Homes & Garden is the official media partner! I’m not sure about you, but I grew up flipping through the pages of BH&G magazines and daydreaming of creating beautiful spaces- something I now get to do daily, and I am just so thankful.
This year looks a little different for the challenge. (thanksCOVID-19…) We will actually have 8 weeks instead of 6. So for 8 weeks be prepared for some amazing design inspiration from all the participants!
Now, on to what I have been waiting for weeks to share!
If you follow my Instagram, you have probably already seen that we are transforming my son Landon’s bathroom for this season’s challenge.
You might even have seen a little peek at some before photos.
That has not changed and we are so excited to finally be working on this space.
Landon’s bathroom was one of those spaces we just hadn’t gotten around to because he wasn’t at a place of needing it yet, and then even when he did need to “potty” he always used the downstairs bathrooms instead.
Now he is 4, and plays in his bedroom all the time, so we knew it was time to complete his bathroom too.
Before I show the before photos, you probably need to see the bathroom layout to understand why the pictures are so…strange and cut off.
Landon and my daughter, Lennon Kate, share a Jack and Jill bathroom.
However, Lennon Kate is nowhere near needing her bathroom yet, so we are focusing on only Landon’s side for this challenge.
When we moved into this house, the bathroom was covered in pink girly wallpaper. So one day while my MIL was watching the kids, she surprised us and ripped it all off! What a huge relief that we didn’t have to do it!
So this is what the bathroom looked like when we started the transformation:
Needless to say, it is a tiny space so pictures are very hard to capture. It was rough, but it won’t be for long, because I have put together a plan that I think will be perfect for this space!
But first, I asked Landon what he wanted his bathroom to look like and he gave me quite a few ideas.
1: Dinosaurs- he is obsessed.
2: Navy- which he clearly knows I love.
3: A “big boy” bathroom
I decided to take 2 out of 3 ideas a run with it… and as far as dinosaurs go…. probably not.
Here is a little peek into what we have planned, but join us next Thursday as we talk through the overall design and why we are going in that direction!
And if you have some time to kill, check out the other participants in the One Room Challenge, because you will not be disappointed!
